Join Our Edmonton Youth Basketball Club Teams

Basketball starts as a game. It becomes a place to belong.

It is where kids learn how to compete, how to communicate, and how to respond when things do not go their way. Confidence is built possession by possession. Friendships are formed in the moments between drills. Growth happens when the ball is live and decisions have to be made

.

At FCV Hoops in South Edmonton, our teams are built for that process. We create an environment where young athletes are pushed, supported, and taught how to actually understand the game. Beginners, developing players, and experienced athletes all share the same goal here. Get better. Together.

FCV Hoops Tryouts Are About More Than Making a Team

Tryouts should not feel like a test you are scared to fail.

At FCV Hoops, tryouts are a window into how we actually coach. How we teach. How we build players. How we build culture.

We are not looking for perfect players. We are looking for players who want to learn, compete, and grow inside a real development environment.

If your child loves basketball and wants to get better the right way, this is where it starts.

How FCV Hoops Develops Players Differently

We coach using a Constraints Led Approach. That means players are not told every answer.\ They are put into situations where they have to figure things out.

Basketball is chaotic. So we coach inside that chaos.

Players learn how to..

  • Read defenders instead of memorizing moves

  • Make decisions under pressure

  • Adapt when things do not go perfectly

  • Play with confidence and creativity

This approach builds players who understand the game, not just players who look good in drills.

What a Typical FCV Hoops Practice Looks Like

Practices at FCV Hoops do not start with running lines or static stretching.

  • We usually begin with a non traditional warm up, often a competitive game or challenge. This does two things. It gets players moving right away and it rewards athletes who show up on time. Kids want to be early because they do not want to miss it.

  • From there we move into skill work with purpose. Ball handling under pressure. Footwork into finishes. Shooting that flows into reads. Skills are taught inside constraints so players are constantly making decisions.

  • Next comes small sided games. Two on two advantage games. Three on three spacing games. Situational scoring challenges. This is where players start connecting skills to gameplay.

  • We finish with live scrimmaging. Not just free play. Guided scrimmages with emphasis on spacing, decision making, defensive effort, and communication.

Every part of practice connects. Nothing is random.

What We Look For During Tryouts

We are not just watching who scores the most points.

We pay attention to

  • Effort and energy

  • Coachability

  • Decision making

  • Body language

  • How players respond to mistakes

Tryouts give players a chance to show who they are, not just what they can do.

More Than Basketball

Being part of FCV Hoops means learning lessons that go beyond the court.

Players develop discipline through consistent effort. Confidence through problem solving. Leadership through accountability. Respect for teammates, opponents, and the game.

Basketball is the tool. Development is the goal.

Is FCV Hoops the Right Fit

FCV Hoops is for players who want to improve, not just participate. For families who value long term development over short term results. For athletes who want to learn how to think the game, not just run plays.

If that sounds like your child, we would love to see them at tryouts.

Ready to Take the Next Step

Tryouts are the first step into a season built around real coaching, real competition, and real growth.
